Season
After a fall
You've sinned badly. Here is the way back.
What this is
Maybe you've done something you never thought you would, or drifted for years. The door home is open. In Jesus' story, the father sees his son far off and runs to him (Luke 15:20).
Coming back starts with honest confession. If we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive us and cleanse us (1 John 1:9). Psalm 51, David's prayer after adultery and murder, shows the way.
Forgiveness is instant, but rebuilding trust takes time. Take responsibility, apologise and make right what you can. If someone has been harmed, laws were broken, or anyone is in danger, talk to a real person today: a pastor, a doctor or a crisis line.
Shame says you're finished. The gospel says you're forgiven. Peter denied Jesus three times, and Jesus restored him and gave him work (John 21:15-17).
Hold on to this
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Read slowly: A prayer for a clean heartPsalm 51:1-17
1Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your loving devotion; according to Your great compassion, blot out my transgressions. 2Wash me clean of my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. 3For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. 4Against You, You only, have I sinned and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You may be proved right when You speak and blameless when You judge. 5Surely I was brought forth in iniquity; I was sinful when my mother conceived me. 6Surely You desire truth in the inmost being; You teach me wisdom in the inmost place. 7Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. 8Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones You have crushed rejoice. 9Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities. 10Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. 11Cast me not away from Your presence; take not Your Holy Spirit from me. 12Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and sustain me with a willing spirit. 13Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners will return to You. 14Deliver me from bloodguilt, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing of Your righteousness. 15O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise. 16For You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; You take no pleasure in burnt offerings. 17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.
So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still in the distance, his father saw him and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. The son declared, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let us feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again! He was lost and is found!’ So they began to celebrate.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your presence; take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and sustain me with a willing spirit.
He who conceals his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy.
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
When they had finished eating, Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love Me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he answered, “You know I love You.” Jesus replied, “Feed My lambs.” Jesus asked a second time, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?” “Yes, Lord,” he answered, “You know I love You.” Jesus told him, “Shepherd My sheep.” Jesus asked a third time, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was deeply hurt that Jesus had asked him a third time, “Do you love Me?” “Lord, You know all things,” he replied. “You know I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.
Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will arise; though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.

- Get back into rhythmGo to church this Sunday and pray tomorrow morning. Don't wait to feel worthy.
Watch out: Hiding or wallowing
After a fall, some people hide it and carry on. Others punish themselves for months. Both miss grace.
Pray
Father, I have sinned against You and I'm sorry. Have mercy on me, wash me clean and give me a new heart. Thank You that Jesus paid for this too. Help me get up and walk with You again.
