What we believe

The Walk of Faith and Levo are built on the Bible and on the faith Christians have confessed for two thousand years. We are not tied to one church or denomination. We want you to belong to a local church, where real people know you and walk with you.

One God, three persons

There is one God, who has always existed as three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

The Bible is clear that there is only one God. It also shows us the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit, and each of them is fully God. They are not three gods, and they are not one person wearing three masks. They are one God in three persons. Christians call this the Trinity.

No one can fully picture this, and that is fine. A God small enough to understand completely would not be God. What matters is what it means: before anything was made, God was already love, shared between the Father, the Son and the Spirit. He did not make you because He was lonely. He made you to share in a love that was already there.

In daily life this means God is personal. You can talk to Him as your Father, trust Jesus as the one who knows from the inside what being human is like, and rely on the Spirit who lives in you. Christians of every tradition that holds the historic faith agree on this.

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is One.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made.

As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. Suddenly the heavens were opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and resting on Him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased!”

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father—He will testify about Me.

Made in God's image

God made everything, and He made every person in His own image, with a worth no one can take away.

The world is not an accident. God made it on purpose and called it good. At the centre of it He made people, male and female, in His own image. That means you were made to know God, to show what He is like and to look after His world.

Your worth does not come from your looks, your grades, your job, your followers or what people say about you. It comes from the One who made you. The same is true of every person you meet, including the ones you find hard to like, the unborn, the old and the weak. This changes how you see yourself and how you treat others.

Christians who trust the Bible read the days of Genesis 1 in different ways and hold different views on the age of the earth. They agree on what matters most: God made everything, and He made you on purpose.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, and over all the earth itself and every creature that crawls upon it.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

And God looked upon all that He had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

When I behold Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place— what is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You care for him? You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler of the works of Your hands; You have placed everything under his feet.

For You formed my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and I know this very well.

What went wrong

People turned away from God, and since then sin has damaged our hearts, our relationships and the whole world.

The first people did not trust what God had said and chose their own way. The Bible calls this sin. Sin is not only doing bad things. It is living as if we were God and could decide for ourselves what is good. The result was shame, hiding, death and a gap between us and God.

Every one of us has inherited this. Nobody has to teach a small child to be selfish. All of us have sinned, and none of us can fix it on our own. That is hard to hear, but it is honest, and it explains a lot: why you do things you do not want to do, why relationships hurt, and why the world is full of pain. Some of that pain is not your fault. Other people's sin hurts you too, and God sees it.

This is not the end of the story. The Bible tells you the bad news plainly so that you can see how good the good news really is.

When the woman saw that the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eyes, and that it was desirable for obtaining wisdom, she took the fruit and ate it. She also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate it. And the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; so they sewed together fig leaves and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the breeze of the day, and they hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned.

But your iniquities have built barriers between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He does not hear.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Jesus: God and man

Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, born of the virgin Mary, and He lived a life without sin.

Jesus is not only a good teacher or a prophet. He is the eternal Son of God who became a real human being. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of Mary, a virgin. He was hungry, tired, sad and tempted, just like you. But He never sinned, not once.

Both sides matter. Because He is God, He can save you, and He shows you exactly what God is like. Because He is man, He could stand in your place, and He understands your struggle from the inside. When you are tempted, you are praying to someone who has been there.

If you want to know what God is like, read about Jesus in the Gospels. Watch how He welcomed people, told the truth and touched the ones nobody else would touch.

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity dwells in bodily form.

How can this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God.

Who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who was tempted in every way that we are, yet was without sin.

The cross

Jesus died on the cross in our place and took the punishment for our sin, so that we can be forgiven.

On the cross Jesus did what no one else could do. He took the guilt and the punishment our sin deserves, and in return He gives us His right standing with God. He died as our substitute: in our place, for us.

This is why forgiveness is neither cheap nor fake. God does not simply look away from sin. He dealt with it fully, at His own cost. That is how He can be completely just and completely kind at the same time.

For daily life this means you never have to pay God back. When guilt rises again about something you have already confessed, you can point to the cross: it is paid. And the more you see what it cost, the less attractive sin becomes.

But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. We all like sheep have gone astray, each one has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid upon Him the iniquity of us all.

But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.

When you were dead in your trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our trespasses, having canceled the debt ascribed to us in the decrees that stood against us. He took it away, nailing it to the cross!

Jesus is risen

On the third day Jesus rose bodily from the dead, and He is alive today.

Jesus did not just live on as a memory or a spirit. His tomb was empty. He ate with His friends, they touched Him, and more than five hundred people saw Him alive. Many of the first Christians suffered for saying so, and they did not take it back.

Everything depends on this. If Jesus did not rise, faith is useless. Because He did rise, we know His death for sin was enough, death has lost its power, and He is a living Lord you can talk to today, not a hero from the past.

It also means your future is more than survival. One day God will raise you too, with a real body. Nothing you do for Him now is wasted.

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas and then to the Twelve. After that, He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles. And last of all He appeared to me also, as to one of untimely birth.

While they were describing these events, Jesus Himself stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” But they were startled and frightened, thinking they had seen a spirit. “Why are you troubled,” Jesus asked, “and why do doubts arise in your hearts? Look at My hands and My feet. It is I Myself. Touch Me and see—for a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and feet. While they were still in disbelief because of their joy and amazement, He asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” So they gave Him a piece of broiled fish, and He took it and ate it in front of them.

And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.

For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, He cannot die again; death no longer has dominion over Him.

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast and immovable. Always excel in the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Saved by grace

We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, not by being good enough.

Grace means a gift you did not earn and cannot earn. You are not made right with God by trying harder, going to church more or doing more good than bad. You are made right with God by trusting Jesus and what He has done for you. Faith is not a feeling you have to work up. It is turning to Him and leaning your whole weight on Him.

This takes two heavy loads off you. You do not have to prove yourself, and you do not have to wonder whether you have done enough. On your worst day you are still accepted, because of Jesus and not because of you.

Real grace never leaves you the way it found you. God does not save you by good works, but He does save you for them. Grace is never a reason to carry on as before. It teaches you to say no to sin and to live a new life.

For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.

And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no distinction, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not by the righteous deeds we had done, but according to His mercy, through the washing of new birth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. This is the Spirit He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by His grace, we would become heirs with the hope of eternal life.

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to everyone. It instructs us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives in the present age.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit gives new life, lives in everyone who trusts Jesus and changes us from the inside.

The Holy Spirit is not a force or a mood. He is God, a person, just as the Father and the Son are. Jesus said we must be born again, and the Spirit is the one who does it. When you turn to Jesus, the Spirit makes you alive to God and comes to live in you. From then on you are never alone.

He changes you, slowly and for real. He makes you more like Jesus: more loving, more patient, more self-controlled. This is not you trying to look holy. The Bible calls it fruit, something that grows. Your part is to stay close to Him, take in His Word and take the next right step He shows you.

The Spirit also gives every Christian gifts to build up others, such as teaching, serving and encouraging. Christians differ on some gifts, like speaking in tongues, prophecy and healing, and on how they work today. Your local church will help you think this through.

Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh is born of flesh, but spirit is born of the Spirit. Do not be amazed that I said, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes. You hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.

You, however, are controlled not by the flesh, but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

There are different gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different ministries, but the same Lord. There are different ways of working, but the same God works all things in all people. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

Forgiven and fighting

Forgiveness is instant, freedom is a fight, and the fight goes on until we see Jesus face to face.

When you confess your sin to God, He forgives you completely, right then. You do not have to wait, earn it back or feel bad for long enough. Your record is clean.

But the pull of old habits does not always disappear overnight. The Bible is honest about this: the Spirit and our sinful desires pull against each other. The good news is that sin is no longer your master. With every temptation God provides a way out, so you can win the next one. A fall does not cancel your faith. Get up, confess it and keep walking.

God does not promise that temptation will vanish in this life. He promises to be with you in it. On the day you see Jesus face to face, the fight will be over and you will be like Him. Until then you fight alongside other believers, not on your own.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide an escape, so that you can stand up under it.

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh craves what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you want.

Beloved, we are now children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when Christ appears, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is.

The Bible

The Bible is God's Word, true and trustworthy, and it is our final authority for what we believe and how we live.

The Bible was written by many people over many centuries, but through all of them God was speaking. That is why it holds together and why it still speaks today. It is not a rulebook for scoring points. It is the story of God rescuing His people, and it all points to Jesus.

Final authority means this: when a feeling, a teacher, a tradition or even Levo says something different from the Bible, the Bible wins. Good teachers, creeds and churches help us understand it, but they stand under it. Check what you hear against it, the way the people in Berea checked what Paul taught them.

You do not need to understand all of it before you start. Read a little each day, beginning with a Gospel such as Mark or John. Ask what it shows you about God and what it asks you to do. Then do it.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation. For no such prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true.

The church

Everyone who trusts Jesus belongs to His church and is meant to live it out in a local church, with baptism and the Lord's Supper.

When you trust Jesus, you are joined to all His people, across the world and across history. You also need a local church: real people who know your name, pray with you, teach you and tell you the truth when you need it. Following Jesus on your own was never the plan. No church is perfect, because every church is full of forgiven sinners, but this is where God grows His people.

Jesus gave His church two signs to keep. Baptism with water marks the start of life with Him and joins you to His people. The Lord's Supper, also called communion, is the bread and the cup we share to remember His death and to be strengthened by Him until He comes back.

Churches differ on some details: whether to baptise the babies of believing parents or only people who can confess faith themselves, whether to sprinkle or immerse, and what exactly happens in the Lord's Supper. Christians who trust the Bible hold different views here. Your local church will explain what it practises and why.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

Those who embraced his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to the believers that day. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.

If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each of you is a member of it.

And let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds. Let us not neglect meeting together, as some have made a habit, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Jesus is coming back

Jesus will come back in person, raise the dead, judge the world with justice and make everything new.

History is going somewhere. Jesus left in a body, and He will come back in the same way. The dead will be raised with real bodies. Everyone will stand before Him, and He will judge with perfect justice. No evil will be overlooked.

Then God will make a new heaven and a new earth. He will live with His people, and there will be no more death, crying or pain. This is not floating on clouds forever. It is real life in a renewed world, the way it was always meant to be.

This hope changes today. It gives you a reason to keep going when life is hard, and a reason to take holiness seriously. Christians differ on the order and timing of the events at the end, such as the thousand years and the great tribulation. They agree that Jesus is coming back and that we should be ready.

“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.”

Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming when all who are in their graves will hear His voice and come out—those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.

So will it be with the resurrection of the dead: What is sown is perishable; it is raised imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad.

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. ‘He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,’ and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.” And the One seated on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” Then He said, “Write this down, for these words are faithful and true.”

Where Christians differ

On some secondary questions, sincere Christians who trust the Bible have disagreed for centuries: whether to baptise infants or only believers, how some spiritual gifts work today, the order of events at the end, and how a church should be led. These questions matter, but they do not decide whether someone belongs to Jesus. Levo and The Walk of Faith do not take sides on them. Your local church will guide you.

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again; He ascended into heaven, He is seated at the right hand of the Father, and He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

"Catholic" here means the worldwide church of all believers.
