Being saved
How do I forgive myself?
Short answer
If God has forgiven you, you don't need to keep punishing yourself. Agree with His verdict over your life.
Many Christians believe God has forgiven them but can't let go. They replay the moment and punish themselves, as if they had to suffer a bit longer. You don't need to add your suffering to what Jesus has done.
The Bible talks more about receiving God's forgiveness than forgiving yourself. When God says you are clean, He is the judge, not your inner critic. Even when our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts.
Guilt says: I did something wrong, so I'll bring it to God. Shame says: I am something wrong, so I'll hide. God dealt with your guilt at the cross, and He lifts your shame too.
If you hurt someone, make it right where you can. When the memory returns, answer it out loud: That is forgiven. There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus.
My verses
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.
And by this we will know that we belong to the truth, and will assure our hearts in His presence: Even if our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts, and He knows all things.
Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity and passes over the transgression of the remnant of His inheritance— who does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in loving devotion? He will again have compassion on us; He will vanquish our iniquities. You will cast out all our sins into the depths of the sea.
I, yes I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake and remembers your sins no more.
