Sin and temptation
Why do I keep doing the thing I hate?
Short answer
Because the fight between your old nature and the Spirit is real. Forgiveness is instant, freedom is a fight, and you can win.
Paul knew this: “For I do not do the good I want to do. Instead, I keep on doing the evil I do not want to do.” You can still be a real Christian. Hating it is a sign of new life.
But in Romans 6 and 8 Paul says sin's power is broken. It is no longer your master, even if it still shouts, and you have the Spirit.
Find out when you usually fall: tired, alone, bored, late at night? Plan for those moments and remove easy access. Tell one trusted Christian and let them ask how it's going. When you fall, confess at once instead of hiding.

My verses
I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh; for I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do. Instead, I keep on doing the evil I do not want to do.
For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death.
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh craves what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you want.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
