How do I stop worrying?

Short answer

Turn each worry into a prayer, focus on today, and remind yourself who holds your future. Peace grows with practice.

Jesus said kindly not to worry about tomorrow. Your Father feeds the birds and clothes the flowers, and you are worth far more. Worry tries to carry tomorrow with today's strength.

Paul says: be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Then peace guards your heart and mind.

When a worry comes, name it to God, ask for what you need and thank Him for one thing He has done. Then do the next small thing you can, and leave the rest with Him.

At first you may need to do this ten times a day. Every time is an act of trust.

My verses

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns—and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.
