Bible verses about anxiety and fear
When worry takes over
The lie
It all depends on me, and God won't come through.
The truth
Fear tells you that you're on your own and that it all depends on you. Both are lies. God is with you, and the outcome is in His hands.
More truth
- You have grace for today, not for tomorrow's what-ifs.
- Being afraid isn't failure. Doing the right thing while afraid is courage.
- Most of what you fear hasn't happened. If it does, God is already there.
Pause
Breathe in slowly. Breathe out longer. Name the fear in one sentence. Then say it: God, You are here.
My verses
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will uphold you with My right hand of righteousness.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?
Have I not commanded you to be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth is transformed and the mountains are toppled into the depths of the seas.
The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— whom shall I dread?
For you did not receive a spirit of slavery that returns you to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.
Now this is what the LORD says— He who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine! When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you go through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched; the flames will not set you ablaze.
Pray
God, I'm afraid. You see this more clearly than I do. I can't control how it turns out, but I can trust You with it. Show me the one thing I need to do today, and give me peace about the rest. Amen.
Your way out
- Say the fear out loud in one sentence, then pray it to God.
- Write down what you can do today, and what only God can do.
- Do the next small faithful thing.
- Go for a 10-minute walk and pray as you go.
- Tell your trusted person what you're afraid of.

If fear or anxiety is constant, affects your sleep or won't lift, talk to your GP or a Christian counsellor as well. Getting help is wisdom, not weak faith.
