Sin and temptation
Is the devil real?
Short answer
Yes. Jesus treated Satan as a real enemy, but he is a defeated one, and he is nowhere near as powerful as God.
Jesus spoke of the devil as real, called him the father of lies, and answered his temptations with Scripture. Satan is no cartoon with horns and no equal opposite god. He is a created being who rebelled, and can only twist what God made.
His main weapon is lies: that God is not good, that you are too far gone, that sin will make you happy. That is why truth matters so much.
Don't blame him for everything, and don't ignore him. Your own choices are real too. But don't be afraid. Jesus disarmed the powers of darkness at the cross, and if you resist the devil, he will flee from you.
When a lie hits you, answer it out loud with a verse, as Jesus did.
My verses
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies.
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in your faith and in the knowledge that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering.
You, little children, are from God and have overcome them, because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
