Sex, dating and family
What if I never get married?
Short answer
Your life is not on hold. Jesus and Paul were single, and the Bible calls singleness a good gift, not a waiting room.
Culture, sometimes even church culture, can make you feel incomplete without a partner. The Bible doesn't. Jesus never married, and Paul called singleness a gift that frees you to serve the Lord with undivided devotion.
It isn't always easy. Wanting marriage is good, and it's fine to pray and hope for it. Loneliness can be real. Tell God honestly.
God doesn't promise that everyone will marry. He promises never to leave you, and gives you brothers, sisters, mothers and children in His family, the church.
Invest in deep friendships. Use your time and freedom to serve. Join a small group and have people over for meals.
My verses
I wish that all men were as I am. But each man has his own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that. Now to the unmarried and widows I say this: It is good for them to remain unmarried, as I am.
I want you to be free from concern. The unmarried man is concerned about the work of the Lord, how he can please the Lord. But the married man is concerned about the affairs of this world, how he can please his wife, and his interests are divided. The unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the work of the Lord, how she can be holy in both body and spirit. But the married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world, how she can please her husband. I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but in order to promote proper decorum and undivided devotion to the Lord.
Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for My sake and for the gospel will fail to receive a hundredfold in the present age—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, along with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.
God settles the lonely in families; He leads the prisoners out to prosperity, but the rebellious dwell in a sun-scorched land.
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, for God has said: “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.”
