The Bible
Can I trust the Bible?
Short answer
Yes. It has been copied with remarkable care, it fits real history, and Jesus Himself trusted it as the word of God.
The Bible is 66 books (Catholic and Orthodox Bibles have a few more in the Old Testament), written over about 1,500 years by around 40 authors, yet it tells one story: God rescuing His world through Jesus. Thousands of ancient New Testament copies survive, far more than for any other ancient book.
Jesus treated the Old Testament as true and said Scripture cannot be broken. All Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching us. The prophets spoke from God as the Holy Spirit carried them along.
Trusting the Bible doesn't make hard passages easy. It means reading it expecting God to speak, and still asking honest questions.
The best test is to read it. Start with a Gospel.
My verses
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.
If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and the Scripture cannot be broken.
Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation. For no such prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
