Sovereignty of God
In plain words
God is in charge of everything, and nothing is out of His reach or beyond His care.
Sovereign means the one in charge. The Bible says God rules over everything: nations, weather, history and the details of your life. Nothing takes Him by surprise. That does not make us robots, and it does not mean He likes evil. It means that even when life feels chaotic, there is a good and wise God at the wheel.

The psalm says our God is in heaven and does whatever pleases Him (Psalm 115:3). We make plans, but the Lord directs our steps (Proverbs 16:9). Joseph told his brothers, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good (Genesis 50:20). People sometimes take this to mean their choices do not matter. The Bible holds both: God rules, and we are responsible.
This brings deep rest. You can work hard, pray honestly and make plans, then leave the outcome with Him. In loss you may not see the reason, but you can trust that God works all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).

Scripture calls God the Most High, in Hebrew Elyon, and the Almighty, in Hebrew El Shaddai and in Greek pantokrator, the ruler of all. Even a pagan king confessed that God does as He pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth (Daniel 4:35). Paul says God works out everything according to the purpose of His will (Ephesians 1:11).
Christians agree that God is sovereign, good and never the author of sin. They differ on how His rule relates to human freedom. Reformed Christians stress that God ordains all that happens. Arminian Christians stress that God freely allows real human choice within His plan. Both reject fate and chance and trust the God who rules in love. Your local church can explain how it teaches this.
My verses
Our God is in heaven; He does as He pleases.
A man’s heart plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.
As for you, what you intended against me for evil, God intended for good, in order to accomplish a day like this—to preserve the lives of many people.
And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.
In Him we were also chosen as God’s own, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything by the counsel of His will.
