Election
In plain words
The Bible teaches that God chooses people to be His, and Christians explain that choice differently.
In the Bible God is the one who starts things. He chose Abraham, He chose Israel, and He chooses people to belong to Him in Christ. This is called election. It does not mean God picks the best people. He chose Israel because He loved them, not because they were great (Deuteronomy 7:6-8). Election is meant to humble us and comfort us.

Paul says God chose us in Christ before the creation of the world, to be holy, in love (Ephesians 1:4-6). Jesus says everyone the Father gives Him will come to Him, and He will never turn them away (John 6:37). At the same time God wants all people to be saved (1 Timothy 2:3-4), and the call to believe is real for everyone who hears it.
A common worry is: what if I am not chosen? If you want Jesus and come to Him, you are not shut out. Election is not a reason to wait but a reason to trust. Peter even tells believers to make their calling and election sure by growing in faith (2 Peter 1:10).

The Greek eklegomai, to choose, and proorizo, to decide beforehand, sit behind words like elect and predestined (Romans 8:29-30). Christians share much ground: God saves by grace alone, no one earns being chosen, and people are truly called to believe and are responsible to respond.
They differ on how God's choice relates to human faith. Reformed Christians teach that God chose particular people out of pure mercy and that His choice is the reason they come to faith. Arminian Christians teach that God chose those He knew would freely believe, or chose Christ and all who are in Him, and that His grace enables everyone to respond. Your local church can explain what it holds and why.
My verses
For He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless in His presence. In love He predestined us for adoption as His sons through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the Beloved One.
For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers. And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified.
Everyone the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will never drive away.
This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Therefore, brothers, strive to make your calling and election sure. For if you practice these things you will never stumble.
