Sabbath rest
In plain words
Sabbath means a regular day of rest God gave, and the deeper rest you find in Jesus.
God made the world in six days and rested on the seventh. Then He told His people to do the same: work six days and rest one (Exodus 20:8-11). That rest day is called the Sabbath, from a Hebrew word meaning to stop.
In a world that never switches off, a day of rest is a gift. It is a weekly reminder that you are not a machine and that the world does not depend on you. Jesus said the Sabbath was made for people, not people for the Sabbath (Mark 2:27). It is a gift, not a burden.

Jesus offered a deeper rest: "Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28-29). The weekly rest points to this rest of the soul. You stop trying to earn God's love because Jesus has done the work. Hebrews says a Sabbath rest remains for God's people (Hebrews 4:9-10).
Some turn the Sabbath into a list of rules; others ignore rest completely. Neither fits the heart of it. Practically: choose a regular time each week to stop work, switch off screens, worship with others, enjoy creation, and spend time with people you love. Rest is an act of trust.

The Hebrew shabbat means ceasing. The Sabbath is rooted in creation and in Israel's freedom from slavery, and it was a sign of the covenant. Jesus healed on the Sabbath and called Himself its Lord, showing its purpose was mercy. Paul calls it a shadow of what is fulfilled in Christ (Colossians 2:16-17).
Christians differ on how the Sabbath applies today: some keep Saturday, many gather on Sunday as the day of resurrection, and others see no single required day but keep the rhythm of rest; follow your conscience and your local church. All agree that rest is God's good gift and that true rest is found in Christ.
My verses
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God, on which you must not do any work—neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant or livestock, nor the foreigner within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth and the sea and all that is in them, but on the seventh day He rested. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.
Then Jesus declared, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.
Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
There remains, then, a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For whoever enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from His.
Therefore let no one judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a feast, a New Moon, or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the body that casts it belongs to Christ.
