Bible verses for screens
Scrolling, gaming, my phone
The lie
A few more minutes will help me switch off.
The truth
Your time and your attention are gifts. Endless scrolling promises rest and leaves you more tired.
More truth
- Boredom is a doorway. Choose what walks through it.
- Not everything allowed is helpful.
- Your kids remember whether you looked up.
Pause
Stop. Put the phone face down. Breathe. Ask: what am I actually looking for right now?
My verses
Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Turn my eyes away from worthless things; revive me with Your word.
I will set no worthless thing before my eyes. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me.
“Everything is permissible for me,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me,” but I will not be mastered by anything.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things.
So teach us to number our days, that we may present a heart of wisdom.
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted over the earth.”
Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up and slipped out to a solitary place to pray.
Let your eyes look forward; fix your gaze straight ahead. Make a level path for your feet, and all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your feet away from evil.
You will keep in perfect peace the steadfast of mind, because he trusts in You.
Pray
Lord, I've been numbing out on my screen again. Turn my eyes from worthless things. Help me be present with You and with the people in front of me. Amen.
Your way out
- Put the phone in another room for 30 minutes.
- Turn on grayscale or a screen-time limit.
- Do something with your hands: walk, cook, fix something.
- Talk to someone in the room with you.
- Charge the phone outside the bedroom tonight.
Set up your defences
Use your phone's own tools: Screen Time on iPhone or Digital Wellbeing on Android. Let your trusted person hold the passcode.
“Everything is permissible for me,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me,” but I will not be mastered by anything.
