Calling, work and everyday life
Does my job matter to God, or only church stuff?
Short answer
Your work matters to God. Whatever you do, you can do it for Him, as a nurse, builder, student or parent at home.
Some think only pastors and missionaries have a real calling. But God gave Adam work before sin entered the world. Work is part of being human, not a punishment.
Paul told slaves, of all people, to work with all their heart, as for the Lord. So serving customers, fixing things properly, handling money honestly, teaching children: all of it can be worship.
At work you meet people who would never walk into a church. Your honesty and kindness there say a lot.
Pick one way to honour Jesus at work this week: be on time, stop complaining, help a colleague, refuse to cut a corner.
My verses
Then the LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.
Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, for the Lord and not for men, because you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as your reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
