Bible verses for envy
Comparing my life to theirs
The lie
God has been unfair to me. I'd be happy if I had what they have.
The truth
Envy says God has been unfair to you. He hasn't. He has given you exactly what you need for the path He has you on.
More truth
- Their blessing isn't your loss.
- Comparison steals the joy of what God has given you.
- Jesus said to Peter: what is that to you? You follow Me.

My verses
A tranquil heart is life to the body, but envy rots the bones.
For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every evil practice.
I am not saying this out of need, for I have learned to be content regardless of my circumstances. I know how to live humbly, and I know how to abound. I am accustomed to any and every situation—to being filled and being hungry, to having plenty and having need.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
Do not fret over those who do evil; do not envy those who do wrong. For they wither quickly like grass and wilt like tender plants. Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?” Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain until I return, what is that to you? You follow Me!”
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, for God has said: “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.”
When I tried to understand all this, it was troublesome in my sight until I entered God’s sanctuary; then I discerned their end.
Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying one another.
Rid yourselves, therefore, of all malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.
Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.
The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; You have made my lot secure. The lines of my boundary have fallen in pleasant places; surely my inheritance is delightful.
Pray
Father, I'm jealous, and I don't like it. Forgive me for comparing. Thank You for what You've given me: name three things to Him right now. Help me be glad for them and content with You. Amen.
Your way out
- Close the app or leave the page you're on.
- Name three things you're thankful for, out loud.
- Pray a blessing over the person you envy, by name.
- Send them a genuine compliment.
- Ask what God is asking of you today, not of them.
Watch what you feed
Envy grows on what you look at. If a feed or a person keeps stirring it, mute, unfollow or step back for a season.
For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every evil practice.
